Welcome to live | make | transform!
With this project, we aim to share our research and travels regarding live/make spaces and maker districts.
Between 2023 to 2024, we travelled to historical and contemporary live/make dwellings and neighbourhoods in : Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Seoul, London and New York.
Many of these messy, energetic and creative sites present alternatives to North American zoning, which traditionally maintains a strict separation between industrial and residential areas.
The Junction Maker District, a speculative design, is one vision of what might be possible in Toronto with the introduction of a new “maker zoning.” As with many contemporary live/make sites and districts, it is not a definitive solution or a finalized model, but rather part of a broader conversation.
Studio Junction was a recipient of a Prix de Rome in Architecture – Professional (2023) from The Canada Council for the Arts.
